Similar to author Michael Pollan’s advice to “eat food, not too much, mostly plants,” the new guidelines urge Americans to mostly eat real food, limit sugars, and avoid ultra-processed foods (UPFs). A recent Harvard Gazette article highlights a long-term study of more than 130,000 people that found those who drank moderate amounts of caffeinated coffee (and even tea!) showed about an 18% lower chance of developing dementia compared with those who drank little or none — and also reported better cognitive function.
